Here at WAXON, dry January holds two meanings. Of course, it began as the movement to ditch alcohol for the first month of the year. But in our books, it’s also the ultimate descriptor for what happens to our skin in the new year. With harsh winter weather in full swing, it feels like our once-glowing complexions become dull and lifeless practically overnight. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be this way. Keep reading to discover our top tips to revive dry skin, allowing you to bid farewell to Dry January once and for all.
Tips to Revive Dry Skin
Shower: Swap hot showers for warm ones come winter. Although you might be inclined to turn that faucet to its hottest setting in the wintertime, the hotter (and longer) the shower, the more oils will be stripped from your skin. So do your skin a favour, and stick to warm showers of five to ten minutes in length.
Cleanse: The first step in reviving dry skin is to cleanse with a gentle, sulfate-free, fragrance-free cleanser. Harsh ingredients like certain artificial fragrances, alcohols, and acids will only serve to strip the skin, leaving it drier than it was before. Instead, choose a cleanser with hydrating, natural ingredients like hyaluronic acid or jojoba oil.
Exfoliate: Though it might seem counterintuitive, exfoliating is still a must, even when suffering from dry skin. Exfoliating (using our Citrus Mint Body Polish, of course) is the best way to slough off dead skin cells, which is a necessary step if you want your skin to absorb the nourishing moisturizers and oils while using this superhero product! That said, don’t go wild with exfoliating. Once or twice a week is plenty in the winter, and perhaps even less if you have sensitive skin.
Moisturize: You always want to apply a moisturizer immediately after getting out of the shower in order to trap as much moisture as possible. Our pick? BARE Body Oil. Ultra-hydrating and fast-absorbing, this miracle skincare product is made with a powerhouse blend of avocado, coconut, and jojoba oils.

Mask: Last but not least, revive a dull complexion in one fell swoop by applying a face mask once or twice a week. Look for masks with nourishing, hydrating ingredients like Radford’s 24K Gold Hydrogel Face Mask, which contains hyaluronic acid for moisture, carob seed to improve skin texture, and sea moss for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Trade in dull, lifeless skin for a dewy, glowing complexion this month by embracing the tips above. Bye-bye, Dry January - we won’t miss you.
