Today, we’re answering your burning questions on a topic everyone is curious to learn more about: vibrators. For those that don’t know, WAXON is on a mission to break down the stigma surrounding vibrators and female self-pleasure, so prepare to see several articles on this in the months to come. Though we already outlined a few tips for first time vibers, we thought we’d dive a little deeper into the subject. From vibing with your partner to what vibrators ~really~ feel like, keep scrolling to learn more about the art of pleasure.

FAQs

  1. I’ve never used a vibrator before, how do I know which one to buy?

Buying your first vibrator can be a little intimidating, especially with so many types and price points on the market. To figure out which sex toy is right for you, there are two key questions you need to ask yourself. First, “what is my price point?” Prices for vibrators are typically either inexpensive (under $50), mid-range ($50-$125), or pricey ($200+). However, rest assured that no matter what your budget, you’ll have no trouble finding a vibe that gets the job done.

That brings us to question #2: “what is my preferred stimulation style?” Knowing your preferred stimulation style will help you narrow down vibrators by type. There are three main styles: internal, external, and combo. If you prefer internal stimulation, opt for a curved g-spot-targeting vibrator. Alternatively, if external stimulation is your jam, consider a bullet, wand, or suction vibe. For both external and internal stimulation, there’s nothing more classic than a rabbit vibrator. Aren’t sure where to begin? Start small with a travel-sized bullet vibrator or with a rabbit vibrator, allowing you to experiment with both kinds of stimulation.

  1. What does a vibrator feel like?

In a word? BLISS. In all seriousness though, different vibrators will provide different sensations. Depending on whether your vibe delivers internal or external stimulation (or both), and whether it uses fine point or broad surface frequencies will affect the feeling it gives you. Further, the technology the vibrator uses will also impact the end result. For example, suction vibrators are meant to simulate oral sex, providing a gentler sensation than a classic bullet vibrator. Thankfully, nearly all vibrators have multiple settings, giving you the freedom to explore what feels best for you.

  1. Are vibrators waterproof?

Some! If you want the option of using your vibe in the tub or shower, then be sure to look for a sex toy that is fully waterproof (not just water-resistant). Waterproof vibes are super common, so you should be able to find a waterproof vibrator easily.

  1. What material is best for a vibrator?

Silicone reigns supreme when it comes to vibe materials. It’s non-porous, easy to clean, and soft. Alternatively, vibrators made out of permeable materials like jelly are known to collect dirt and bacteria, increasing your chances of an infection. Medical-grade silicone is the way to go.

  1. Do other people vibe?

YES. In fact, studies out of the United States have found that roughly 52% of women use or have used a vibrator. That’s over HALF the female population, and we’re willing to bet that number’s even higher in reality. So if you choose to vibe, know that you are FAR from alone.

  1. Can I use a vibrator with my partner?

Absolutely. One of our favourite ways to vibe is with our partners. Vibrators can be used in so many different ways - during foreplay, sex, and even remotely. For all you long-distance lovers out there - upgrade your FaceTime sex routine with an app-controlled toy like the Nova 2 Rabbit Vibe, which can be controlled remotely, creating an interactive experience for all.

  1. Is there anything else I need to enjoy some ~alone~ time with my vibe?

Other than the vibrator itself, there are a couple key items we recommend having on hand. The first is lubricant. A water-based lube, like South’s Sex H2O pH Balanced Lubricant, will heighteneverysensation. Just be sure to avoid silicone-based lubes if you’re using a silicone sex toy, as this can lead to degradation. The second product we recommend is a cleanser. Cleaning your vibe after each use is a must if you want to avoid a build-up of bacteria. We recommend a pH balanced cleanser like South’s pH Balanced Intimate Skin Cleanser that will disinfect your vibrator without disrupting your vagina’s delicate pH.
